People receiving universal credit or other working-age benefits will be able to apply for a one-off £100 payment this winter to help with the cost of fuel bills.

The scheme, announced by the Welsh Government, will be open to households where at least one person is on a working-age means tested benefit and is responsible for paying the property’s energy bills.

Claimants must have been claiming any one of these benefits between December 1, 2021, and January 31, 2022: Income support; Income-based job seekers allowance; Income-based Employment and support allowance; Universal credit; Working tax credits.

The fund will not go live in Pembrokeshire until mid-December when those identified as eligible will be contacted by letter by Pembrokeshire County Council, and invited to submit a claim on the Authority’s website.

Further information will be issued nearer to the time.

The payment will not affect other benefits or be subject to tax.

This is a separate scheme to the winter fuel payment for pensioners which is offered by the UK Government.
