The new High Sheriff has been appointed for the county of Gwent. Mrs Elizabeth Murray, the outgoing High Sheriff made the formal announcement at Bridges Community Centre where the proceedings took place last Friday (April 5th).

Murray MacFarlane, a Trustee of Bridges Community Centre signed his Declaration of Office before Lady Hayman Joyce JP.

After the formal proceedings had been completed, Murray thanked everyone for their help and support for the event.

After congratulating the former High Sheriff on a very successful year, Murray continued with an insight into some of the problems faced by young people in his ten years experience with the Youth Offending Service.

His efforts are now focused on raising money through the Gwent High Sheriffs Community Fund which last year helped more than 20 organizations and some 1800 young people, even though the charity is too small to attract main stream funding from national and Welsh Government sources.

Reminding everyone that this event was probably the last free one they will be asked to attend he thanked everyone for listening and invited everyone for refreshments.
