Monmouth Sports Association has just launched a Crowdfunder Page to raise much-needed funds to refurbish the Sports Pavilion on Chippenham Fields.

Home to Monmouth Bowls Club, cricket, football and tennis, as well as providing changing and pitch-side facilities for the rugby club, the pavilion is in desperate need of a facelift.

Sports Association Secretary and Cricket Club member Delyth Harris said that the Chippenham fields and Sportsground are the “jewel in the sporting crown” of Monmouth.

“The pavilion needs to match those on-pitch facilities and its place at the heart of the community”, she added.

“The Sports Association has plans to give the pavilion a much-needed facelift; starting with the main function room.”

The aim is to provide a warm welcoming space for participants, supporters and the wider community of Monmouth to enjoy.

As Delyth Harris explained, raising the cash to fund the work is the key.

“We are applying to Sport Wales for help as they are trying a new way to help applicants raise the match funding that most of their off-pitch grant funding requires.

“With their encouragement, we have partnered with Crowdfunder. Rather than simply asking for donations, there are also various ‘rewards’ that can be claimed for specific donations.”

This is a first for the Sports Association, and they ask the whole community of Monmouth to visit the Crowdfunder page and support the project.

“From buying a supporter’s pin to having the naming rights to the pavilion for three years, the Sports Association have set an ambitious fundraising target of £20,000 to carry out the work to the main room. Sport Wales will provide 30 per cent match funding if they reach this target.

Hilary Trenear, Tennis Club Secretary, who is also on the Sports Association Committee, added: “The Sports Association really hopes that everyone will get behind this project, as a stepping stone towards refurbishing the rest of the pavilion.

‘‘The association also wants to open the facilities to the wider community as a way of raising further funds and ensuring sustainability in the longer term.”

Anyone interested in donating or simply finding out more about the project should visit the Crowdfunder page.
