THE Caerphilly Dragon will be at Chepstow Castle between 2nd August and 14th August as part of its grand tour of Wales. The one tonne art installation comes complete with red and black scales, smoke-flaring nostrils, and a giant outreaching claw.
It was created by Cardiff-based prop specialists Wild Creations, who gained international recognition after their Rugby World Cup ‘Ball in the Wall’ at Cardiff Castle.
The fibreglass dragon took six weeks, 374 kilograms of silicon and 15 sculptors to create it.
Chepstow Mayor Councillor Paul Pavia said: “Chepstow is very much looking forward to the invasion of this mythical beast.
“Praise has to be given to CADW and Wild Creations for developing another imaginative and innovative project, which brings to life a number of this country’s historic monuments.
“We all remember the ‘Ball in Wall’ in Cardiff Castle, which was an incredibly popular attraction and through pictures shared on social media, became an international talking point.
“I believe the dragon’s visit this summer will bring the delights of Chepstow Castle to a new and younger audience and will undoubtedly attract more visitors to the town.”
The dragon will be touring as part of Cadw’s ‘historic adventures’ season, and can be seen during the normal Chepstow Castle visiting hours.
