Students at a Monmouth primary school now have improved access to music, thanks to almost £2,000 worth of funding by its parents, teacher and friends association, (PTFA).
A musical trolley packed with percussion instruments has been bought by the PTFA with cash raised through activities such as dress-down days, raffles and bake sales. Although covid quashed the PTFA’s usual programme of fetes, discos and trips, the alternative events were generously supported by parents, with an amazing £1,900 raised.
“We recognise that the children have really missed out on many creative aspects of our curriculum during the pandemic,” said Overmonnow Primary School Headteacher Jo Child. “This generous donation from the PTFA has really boosted our resources and enthusiasm for music education.”
As pupils had to forego their annual pantomime trip due to the pandemic, this donation also funded a Christmas online panto with ice cream treats, and contributed to wooden building blocks for younger students.
“Overmonnow Primary parents are so supportive of the PTFA,” said the association chair, Kelly Thomas-Horton. “The contributions have a big impact on the facilities and equipment the school can offer its children.”
