THE Chepstow Stampede attracted 250 runners from across the country on Saturday (27th September) to test their nerves through a course of obstacles, leg-burning hills and cold water, all in aid of Kidney Research UK. Held at Chepstow Racecourse, the event featured instructors from military fitness group Mojo Active and gave paticipants the option of running 5 or 10km. The course featured specially-made obstacles, as well as testing runners to conquer the cross country fences used by the racecourse's usual four-legged visitors. The route may have been challenging, but did take in the stunning grounds of Piercefield House, the Giant's Cave rock tunnel and the Wye Valley walk. Caroline Freiha, deputy general manager at Chepstow Racecourse, said: "We were very pleased with how well supported this event was in its first year, with over 250 runners raising money for such a great charity. We are already looking forward to next year's event and will be releasing the date in the near future." Linda Rogers, events manager at Kidney Research UK, said: "Three million people in the UK are at risk of kidney disease, which doesn't have a cure. "Money raised through the Chepstow Stampede will allow us to continue to fund the best research into kidney disease, which can affect anyone." Pictures are supplied by AGC Photography.
