A NEW Marks & Spencer food hall (M&S) looks set to open in Chepstow later this year.

The new store will replace the current Co-operative that will close in early July.

Although timelines are unconfirmed, M&S will take over the site in the middle of July and refurbish it accordingly.

The opening of the new M&S food hall is anticipated for September or October this year.

A spokesperson for Marks & Spencer said: "We are looking to bring an M&S Food Hall to Chepstow and have reached an agreement with The Co-operative for its store on Thomas Street.

"We look forward to bringing our outstanding quality, innovative food to the area and will confirm more details soon."

Adam Brooks, chairman of Chepstow Chamber of Commerce, said: "The chamber feel M&S will offer a good choice for customers in Chepstow.

"Our biggest concern was that the site wouldn't have been used for anything so we're pleased it is being used for something positive.

"M&S is a good quality brand and the opening of the store can only add benefit to the town."
