SIR,
On reading your cricket report of last week, quote: "Saran takes eight wickets for 40 in 14 overs", it made me reflect on my playing days for Monmouth.
In the 1961/ 62 season, Monmouth were playing the RAF on the Sports Ground.
The RAF decided to bat first and started with some swagger until the Monmouth captain tossed the ball to a John Morgan.
He bowled down the ground from the grandstand end and in seven overs took eight wickets for 38 runs.
It was fantastic and may still be a record take for Monmouth.
If any of your readers have stories of Monmouth town sports, it would be great to read them.
