aA football club with a difference has been launched in Wyesham. In fact, the project is more of a community based sceme than just playing football.

It is open to everyone from the age of five upwards, regardless of sex, religion, colour or ethnic group.

Organiser, Jason Davies, commented "We have partnered up with the school to help the kids in a number of ways".

He said the scheme would give the youngsters a greater understanding of team spirit and team bu9ilding.

They will be getting exercise, fresh and showing their is a life which does not involve the use of a computer.

"They will also improve their football skills, which will benefit the schools" said Jason.

Fundraising events are being organised, including an Easter Egg Hunt, and there has already been a disco.

"We are talking about summer trips and other activities" he said.

It is also planned to hold quiz nights and other events involving the parents.

The team will be competing in the Easty Gwent League, with matches being played on Sunday mornings.

Training takes place on Thursday evenings on the astroturf at the boys' school.

"Obviously, we are a non profit making club and so any monies raised will go back into the club" said Jason.

"We are always looking for sponsors and the Royal Mail and Mel Wheeler, of MGM Sports, have already sponsored two sets of kit.

"Clare, the owner of the new chocolate shop The Cacao Tree, is going to provide a bag of chocolates for one of the teams at home games.
