AN UNEXPECTED boost to the town’s economy came in a golden form on Friday, 24th August.

115 Gold Wings - Honda’s flagship motorcycle - roared into town on a day trip from Bristol having travelled over the old Severn Bridge and up the Wye Valley.

Alan Roylstone, who organises the events for the Gold Wing Owners Club of Great Britain, said they had a stroke of luck when they arranged the event a few months ago.

“We pulled in and bumped into Gordon Grey (the grounds manager at the sportsground) and he said to leave it to him he would sort something out.

“He opened up the ground for us today and let us in for free. When you consider that we have 115 motorcycles, most with pillion passengers who will probably spend £20 each in town, the shops and cafes should benefit from our visit”.

They stayed three hours in town before revving up and heading back for the bridge via Trellech.
