More reports on the tornado that swept close to the village of Llanishen on Sunday evening (August 30) came from neighbours of Alison and Trevor Neale who sent us the first report of the unusual meteorological phenomenon .
Heather Richards and her husband Gwilym said that when the tornado moved on to their property, they witnessed it “spinning on our lawn.
“On Sunday evening when we looked out, we were both mesmerised by what we saw , with leaves and branches spinning around above our lawn, way above the height of our house, we had never seen anything like it. It lasted for about 30 seconds.
Heather went on to say: “It also buckled the roller doors of our shed and ripped an old cherry tree in half close to the house and an old Sycamore tree had big branches ripped off and other trees.
“The tornado then moved on to our neighbours (Alison and Trevor), who also had damage to their property.
Trevor had previously said that they first noticed it when “the car alarm went off so we went outside to see branches strewn all over the yard and the back window to my car smashed”.
The pole-mounted electricity transformer was sparking and then went on fire.
It was estimated around 64 homes lost their power, including Trevor’s, but his soon returned.
She said that two trees came over on the Pant Glas lane.
The tornado was also spotted in Penallt.
