SIR,

With the amount of rainfall over the past week, I would like to draw your attention to the proposed alterative site for the LDP plan, on the fields adjacent to Rockfield Road. This site has been proposed to house some 400 homes from plans drawn up by the developer Wimpey Homes, These plans were available for discussion earlier in the year at an open consultation held at Bridges.

These fields have, after the recent rainfall, become saturated, so much that standing water has now starting to form its own lake in the field.

If the proposed alterative site was to go ahead these fields would not exist to hold this amount of water. The rain fall and run off from Ancre Hill would run directly into the swollen River Monnow, dramatically increasing the risk of flooding along the Rockfield Road, Drybridge Street and surrounding areas.

If the recent rain has taught our elected councillors anything, it must be that they need to protect these fields and keep them as a natural flood defence to the residents that live in these areas.
