SIR,

A fortnight ago you kindly printed my letter in which I suggested that the council's recycling was not cost effective and resulted in a poor standard of rubbish collection. Rubbish collection should be the council's priority – not recycling or intruding into people's private lives. I suggested that that the latter was illegal.

The council must have legal advisers so I assume that the lack of response from them to my letter was that I was correct but that they decided to treat me as a minor irritation and hope I go away. However, a letter turns up in the Beacon and a stall promoting the council's recycling and giving away sweets appears at the Oldway Centre. More money wasted on something which is not a priority.

Please also note that the Coalition Government sent the mighty Ark Royal to Turkey to be recycled. Make what you will of that.

At the time of writing my previous letter, I was not aware of the use of yellow bags. When I read Mrs Stephen's letter in last week's Beacon I was shocked and appalled. This was even worse than I had anticipated. What sort of people so we have in County Hall that have so little respect for their fellow citizens?

I cannot express my contempt for people who can treat sick people in this way. If there is any decency left in County Hall they will withdraw the yellow bags at once and return to allowing the use of black bags for those who wish to keep their rubbish private. I do not disagree with recycling but it should be left up to the individual.
