MONMOUTHSHIRE Show is back for another year of family-friendly entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

The show is taking place on Sunday August 16 and will be offering a wide variety of stalls, entertainment and a lively atmosphere. Gates are opening from 9am at the Monmouthshire Showground on Redbrook Road.

This event is a long established, one-day celebration which brings people together from in and around the Monmouth area.

There will be a lively programme of attractions to showcase local farming heritage, and reflect a strong positive community spirit. There will be livestock classes and main ring entertainment to craft and artisan food, trade stands and live demonstrations.

Some of the entertainment will include: ferret racing, falconry displays and cattle competitions. There will also be a Home and Garden marquee. The main sponsor of this year's show is Monnow Marquees in Monmouth.

Tickets are available to purchase off their website or at the door on the day of the event. However, prices will increase if tickets are purchased on the door.

Prices online are £16.77 for an adult, £9.43 for a child, and a family ticket of up to three children and two adults is £33.54. A small booking fee will be added to each tickets selection purchased.

This year’s main charitable beneficiary is The Savoy. The Savoy was chosen this year as the main charitable organisation to receive funds from this year’s Monmouthshire Show. The theatre’s main source of revenue is from box office receipts and they rely on the support of the community in order to keep going. The original building which is now known as the Savoy was built back in 1829 and first presented professional theatre in December 1850.

Director and General Manager, Chris Ryde, said: “The Savoy is honoured to be the main charitable beneficiary of this year’s Monmouthshire Show. The theatre and the show are in fact two of the county’s oldest institutions as both were founded in the mid 19th century.”

Last year there was an opportunity to try locally produced food and drinks including local cider, ice-cream pastries and plenty more.

There was a craft marquee and shopping mall selling all sorts of beautifully displayed crafts from people who put lots of time and effort into making a variety of pieces and besides the entertainment from the stages there was the bubble man and a circus workshop which added further exciting entertainment to the show ground.

The show was really well organised, and it brought people from across the community and further afield.

Ahead of this year’s show due to the recent wildfires across South Wales including Blaenavon and in North Wales , with some burning for weeks with firefighters working tirelessly to put it out organisers of Monmouthshire Show have asked everyone to be extra vigilant to help keep the showground safe, including:

  • No naked flames or disposable BBQs
  • No smoking on show field, they will offer a smoking area on tarmac near the Secretary’s Office
  • Dispose of all rubbish, especially glass bottles
