Bridges Charity celebrates 10 years of Volunteering for Wellbeing

BRIDGES charity were delighted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their Volunteering for Wellbeing project with a special celebration event held at the Hitchcock Pavilion in Monmouth on Friday August 7.

The event marked a decade of supporting people through volunteering, bring together volunteers, staff, supporters and community partners to recognise the positive impact the project has had across the county.

Guests were treated to a delicious hog roast from local company Pigs on Spits, while music was provided by local cellist Rachel Waters, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the occasion.

The project now has hundreds of volunteers working across the county in a huge variety of roles, from befriending and driving to helping in community cafés, supporting young people with additional needs, and many more activities that make a difference in local communities.

The evening was a chance to celebrate all that has been achieved over the past ten years, look forward to the future of the project, and say a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who have made it possible.

As part of the celebrations, six people from across the county were nominated as local “Hidden Heroes”. The winners were Terry Christopher, Liz Jilks, Spiro Tanti, Richard Langford-Johnson, Steve Read and Briony Robinson, all of whom have made remarkable contributions through their volunteering.

In conjunction with the Room to Reward charity, each nominee received a certificate of congratulations and a weekend away as a heartfelt thank you for their dedication and contribution.

During the evening, guests watched a series of short videos highlighting the remarkable contributions made by volunteers across the county. Bridges Charity were also delighted to have Dame Jenny Harries close the evening, speaking about the vital importance of volunteers and the enormous impact they have on the health and wellbeing of the local community.
