SIR,

Ref Monmouth taxi services.

I have lived in Monmouth for 36 years, during which time drivers of all the taxi firms have unfailingly been courteous, helpful and accommodating in the extreme to both me and my family.

On the odd occasion I have failed to get one it has been because, like your correspondent, I failed to plan ahead and make arrangements.

All credit to the current firms. Their prices are generally reasonable and their service is excellent.

Everyone is entitled to a day off, and to take it on a traditionally black day makes perfect sense.

If your correspondent failed to get a taxi on a Wednesday morning, there are 17 buses to Raglan from Monmouth between 6.30am and 6.15pm every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays.
