DENNIS and Margaret Prosser are celebrating their Platinum wedding anniversary, after being married for 70 years.
The couple were married in 1955, and are still besotted with each other after three children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Dennis described his wife as “the best wife I could wish for.”

Dennis, 92 and Margaret, 90 first met at a local hall where they went dancing at The Buckholt village hall when they were 18 and 20 years old.

When the couple met, Margaret was working at a local laundry shop and Dennis was working for the forestry commission, and Dennis worked as a lorry driver and on stock wagons before working on a quarry.
They described having children was one of the most memorable experiences they have alongside their coach trip to Belgium and participating in their love for going to car boot sales, skittles, bowls and darts.
Marriage through the decades
There were many significant events in history which happened after their marriage:
1955- Winston Churchill resigns due to ill health so Anthony Eden takes over as Prime Minister.
1965- Alexei Leonov was the first man to have walked in space
1975-Bill Gates and Pau Allen founded Microsoft
1985 - The end of the Miners Strike
1995-The end of the Bosnian war with the signing of the Dayton agreement in December.
2015-Late Queen Elizebeth II became the longest reigning British Monarch in history.
2025-80th anniversary of VE day
Dennis and Margaret got married at St Mary’s Church in Monmouth and shared their wedding reception at The Kings Head which is now Weatherspoons.
Due to the many years of being married they received a card of the King wishing them heartfelt, good wishes on the celebration of their platinum wedding on June 18.
