Clearance of the undergrowth in Monmouth town orchard, on the Two River Meadow, was completed Wednesday, September 22, by Monmouth Rotary Community Champions.

The clearance took place over the course of two days and the team included the community champions group, Rotarians and local environmental groups. The process involved cutting and raking up the undergrowth from between the fruit trees. The Monmouth community orchard project started properly in April 2009 by the Transition Monmouth Food Group. By May 2009 an agreement was obtained from Monmouthshire County Council and from the local Two River Meadow Group to use part of the meadow for, what’s now, a vibrant community orchard enjoyed by the residents and visitors to Monmouth. After permaculture plans were agreed upon and funding was secured, physical work on the project started on September 2009 with a small team clearing the land ready for the orchard.
