Lydney took the lead against the run of play with an early penalty following sustained pressure from the Monmouth forwards. Lydney then settled down to a period of pressure on the Monmouth team.
Strong defensive play by the whole Monmouth team kept Lydney from scoring any further points in the first half.
As the half closed Monmouth began to get its game better structured with quality ball from the set pieces, especially the scrum, it was clearly only a matter of time before Monmouth would score.
And score they did with four well worked tries from Dave Harris, Stuart Gamble, Ed Locke and Tom Ponsford. Lydney got a consolation try towards the end but it was clear the day belonged to Monmouth with its well deserved away win.
