TODAY marks the day of the official poppy appeal, to remember those who served our country.

Poppies become a popular visual around this time of year often seen pinned on coats, knitted, or placed on memorial statues, but behind them holds a special meaning, one which is important to highlight.

Behind each poppy is a personal story; a family remembering a loved one, a veteran or a volunteer giving up their time to support others.

October 22 marks the official launch of Royal British Legion’s 2026 Poppy Appeal. For weeks leading up to Remembrance Day poppies will be available to wear as a reminder to remember those who sacrificed while supporting those in the Armed Forces today.

By contributing towards the poppy appeal people can help be there for serving personnel veterans and their families by donating, volunteering their time, wearing a poppy, fundraising, or exploring other ways to be involved.

The poppy appeal was launched in 1921 and appeals for funds for the Royal British Legion’s vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families throughout their lives.

Poppies will be available at local supermarkets, high street shops, train stations or online at their poppy shop.

The act of wearing a poppy shares a special appreciation to those in the Armed Forces and what they did for our country.
