A MONMOUTH pub manager has inspired two of her friends to help her organise a family fun day to help out a local cancer charity.

A family fun day in aid of Great Oaks Hospice will be held at the Robin Hood, Blestium Street, on Saturday 18th May, with auction and raffle prizes donated by many Monmouth businesses.

Amy Bown, who manages the Robin Hood, herself has been diagnosed with cancer and initially commenced tablet chemotherapy.

However it became apparent in January that the tablet treatment was not strong enough and she was told to incorporate chemo infusions.

Amy said: "I had a chemo port fitted in my chest in February, and continue to have to two treatments running alongside each other. I will continue treatment until such time as I have a successful bone marrow transplant. It is hoped that, with my immunity destroyed by chemo, I can grow the donor’s healthy immune system to replace my own dodgy one!"

The fun day will start at noon and run until 8pm with music, a barbecue and hog roast and a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids.

Prizes for the auction and raffle include beauty vouchers and products, a £30 voucher from the Estero Lounge, a £70 voucher from Helmet Hers, vouchers from local butchers and tea for two at White Swan Tearooms.

A charity wax @wax the whippet will see punters paying £1 to place a wax strip on volunteer Ian ’Whippet’ Pritchard.
