SIR, I was surprised to see Beacon reader Sue Chivers' letter objecting to the inflatable fish on the Charles Rolls statue, and quite appalled that the author assumed she could speak on behalf of the entire town. Everyone I have spoken to, and the results of your own poll similarly to myself, the vast majority of people appreciated this temporary piece of street art. Monmouth is a beautiful town, and I was pleased to see the street furniture being cheered up, appreciated, and enjoyed by so many, both local and visitors to our town. I personally would love to see more fun and creative temporary installations in our town. Perhaps we could invite Luke Jerram to install the Monmouth Slide - I imagine we have the gradient for it. Monmouth is a beautiful town and a lovely place to raise a family. Bringing more fun, colour and lightheartedness to the town centre, and less serious, staid insistence on reverence would help celebrate the vibrancy the young people and families of Monmouth bring.
