SIR, I applaud the fact that the Labour controlled Welsh Assembly has given funding for a new school. Why our councillors sit in modern light airy buildings and our children are taught in prefabricated classrooms is beyond me. Don't believe any promises made by the Liberal-supported Conservative councillors regarding 'plans' to build a new pool. At best Monmouth will be without a public swimming pool for many years. At worst, Monmouth will be one of the few towns of our size in the UK without one. Knocking down a public pool, that was partly paid for by the people of Momouth – completely paid for if you include our council taxes – before a new pool is built, must not be allowed to happen. Build a new pool first, 25 metres would be a sound investment for the people of Monmouth. Our children live in a town surrounded by rivers. They need a public swimming pool and a new school.
