Sir, With the Kingfishers football team moving to Abergavenny to play as reported in the Beacon, I fail to see how they can retain the right to Monmouth Sports Ground. Surely the way forward is for a new Monmouth Town AFC to be founded with local players. In the past, the town always ran at least two teams. Now as far as I can see, there's not even one. There has been a Monmouth town team playing on the Sports Ground for a very long time and I for one would like to see it return. The way forward should be a club run on the same lines as the rugby club. There no-one gets paid and the teams play to whatever standard they can achieve. It was said in the Beacon that the only standard of football played in Monmouth before the Kingfishers was pub-and-club, so any new team would have a target to aim at and beat.
