SIR, I understand that option two for rebuilding Monmouth Comprehensive School is to be submitted for planning permission in August. The new pool must be built before the old one is demolished. Monmouth must not be left without a swimming pool for three or more years. Swimming is a life skill, and primary school children need to be taught to swim. Bussing them to Abergavenny and Chepstow is not a viable option. It would take a whole morning or afternoon and those pools are already fully used. Monmouth is surrounded by three rivers and children have drowned in them in the past. Swimming is healthy exercise, as well as pleasant recreation for children, adults, the frail and the old. The local people and tourists should not be deprived of this amenity. Dr Charlotte Jones (Monmouth)
