FAIRTRADE Fortnight has begun in Monmouth, with the Mayor signing a special Fairtrade teapot which will be taken to local events throughout the fortnight.

The teapot was signed at a full council agenda and will visit a number of Fairtrade events across the area, giving residents a chance to get involved and show their support.

Whether you purchase or supply Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas or rubber gloves, anyone is invited to sign the town’s teapot.

On Saturday September 26, the teapot will be at the market in Agincourt Square, before heading to the Methodist Harvest Supper. It will also visit Osbaston Church in Wales School’s coffee morning on Thursday, and Kymin View on Friday.

There will also be a Fairtrade café at Ty Price on Saturday morning, October 3, while on Monday, October 5, the teapot will be at Wyesham’s Christian Fellowship from 10am until 12pm.

Alongside the events, Monmouthshire Libraries are running a Fairtrade Quiz, giving people a chance to test their Fairtrade knowledge. Anyone who enters could win up to £30 worth of Fairtrade goodies donated by the Co-op.

Fairtrade Fortnight commenced on September 21 and is running until October 4. Fairtrade works with farmers and workers around the world to build a fairer trade system.

“We are proud to be celebrating 26 years of being a certified Fairtrade Town, the longest in the county,” said Anthea.

Monmouth Fairtrade forum meet often, organising Fairtrade events to sell and publicise the importance of Fairtrade products.

“Give yourself a pat on the back by buying a cup of Fairtrade coffee or tea in one of the local cafés or shops where you see the famous Fairtrade circular sign, our high street deserves our support too.”
