s the season nears its conclusion, hopes were high last Saturday (7th May) with the Youth XV being finalists in the Gwent Plate Final at Rodney Parade and the 1st XV expected to seal a place in the knock-out stages for promotion to the Swalec League Division 4 East.
But sadly it was not to be as the Youth lost six-nil to Cwmbran and the Seniors 24-16 away to Blackwood Stars.
Although still second, Ynysddu could just overtake them depending upon the remaining three games in total they have yet to play.
Next Saturday at 2.30pm on Chippenham, Monmouth must plan to beat visitors RTB Ebbw Vale to be sure of a play-off chance.
