MONMOUTH celebrated their VE Day street party on May 11 to commemorate the end of World War II and to remember the fallen soldiers.

The VE day street party was hosted by Monmouth Town Council with the support of Monmouth Chamber of Commerce in Church Street Quarter from 12pm until 3pm.

The day was full of joy, featuring bands from the Sugar Shop to The Royal British Legion Band of Wales, with Harry the Vole making a guest appearance

There was a 1940’s themed dress up competition, a VE day themed photo cut out for people to get photos with along with hats and accessories.

Winners of the period fancy dress were: Under 18’s Evie Hill, over 18’s category was Rob Brittlebank, the owner of the Austin who appeared alongside his wife Chris and the family category was won by Jem Jenkins-Jones, Owen, Jasmin and Saffron Niblock.

100 complimentary boxes of food were given to children, and food was available for adults to purchase, Waitrose in Monmouth provided a donation for this event.
