Monmouth & District Foodbank want to thank Waitrose, their staff and especially their customers who took the time to stop and talk to their dedicated team of volunteers, and then donated food for local people in hardship and crisis.

Over the four Food Drive days, Waitrose customers donated an incredible 421 kgs of food! Enough to provide 17 three day emergency food parcels for Monmouth families.

No one ever thinks they will need a foodbank but illness, redundancy, relationship breakdown and unexpected bills can happen to anyone.

Last year Monmouth foodbank provided 1,018 three day emergency food parcels, 273 of them for children. Over half the people the team helped came to the foodbank for the first time last year.

Over half of the people we helped last year only needed one food parcel. Our volunteers collected and distributed around 10 tonnes of food along with other essentials, toiletries, cleaning materials and other such useful and necessary goods.

A spokesman for the foodbank in Monmouth said: “More than just food: We offer people a warm welcome and where appropriate we try to signpost them to agencies who can help with their problems.

“The foodbank in Monmouth is run entirely by volunteers and relies solely on donations from people in our community to help those who need it.

“The free ‘Bank The Food’ mobile phone app is a great way of knowing what we need each week. We now have 188 people using it to support Monmouth foodbank - thank you!”
