Monmouth First Eleven's excellent form continued on the weekend with a convincing seven wicket win over Avoncroft in their Worcestershire County Cricket League encounter.
With skipper Dan Head deciding to bowl first, Monmouth made early breakthroughs with Andy McGuire (3-36) and Jon Roberts (1-22) claiming scalps.
A middle order partnership between D Apperley (77) and Stephen Evans (52) threatened to ruin a decent fielding display. Ian MacKinley then took four wickets as Avoncroft capitulated to 209 all out. Max Harris and Tej Saran also claimed one wicket each.
In reply, a brilliant century from McGuire (115) set Monmouth up for victory, whilst Dave Teague (44 no) and Head (32) also contributed.
Meanwhile, Monmouth 2nd XI's poor run of form continued with a disappointing 8 wicket defeat at the hands of Chaddesley Corbett. Monmouth batted first, with Adam Roberts (82) and Rob Prewett (41) setting the foundation for a big score.
However, D Perry and Tom Mole snr both claimed five wickets as Monmouth collapsed from 152-1 to 206 all out.
In reply, youngsters Roger Smith (69) and Chris Drew (106) produced good knocks as Chaddesley passed the target with nearly nine overs to spare. Adam Robert (2-49) was the pick of the Monmouth bowlers.
Monmouth Sunday XI's tie with Tintern was abandoned in the second innings due to rain. Jordan Charles scored his third fifty of the season.
