A MONMOUTH Comprehensive School pupil has submitted one of her art projects into a national art competition.
Year 8 pupil Josie Harrison has entered the Glass Prize – Bullseye Glass Schools 2015 award, which aims to inspire innovation in kiln formed glass and encourage glass artists to share their work.
Josie's piece is in the shape of a sword, created as part of her school work, and decorated using a variety of different techniques
"My piece was inspired by Henry V," said Josie."
"I am a pupil at Monmouth Comprehensive and we have been studying The Battle of Agincourt this term.
"The sword is set amongst the ruins of Monmouth castle with ivy growing where it lays.
"The runes on the inside of the blade spell 'Monmouth'."
Josie's head of year, Mr Parkinson, and art teacher, Ms Chaplin are fully supporting Josie's entry on behalf of the school who are also hoping to benefit from the prize – a kiln for the art department.
Julia Harrison, Josie's mother, said, "It would be amazing if they won the prize as it is a £1,500 kiln for the school which would open up glass art to the rest of the school.
"There is no individual prize so she really has done it for the school and it took a while from her drawings to the end result."
Entries in the Bullseye Glass Schools category will be displayed on the Warm Glass UK Facebook page.
The overall winner of this category will be decided by the number of "Likes" gained up to midday on Wednesday 22nd April.
Josie's piece has already gathered more than 500 likes.
