Up to 40 Monmouth volunteers will be abseiling down the face of St Mary’s Church on June 28 and the event will begin at 9am where all volunteers will be raising funds for SARA.
Roslyn Aubrey, who is a local resident from Monmouth is one of the volunteers abseiling down the face of the church due to her house being flooded last November.
Ms Aubrey was rescued by SARA River Boat rescue; by participating in the event it will enable her to show her appreciation of being rescued by the team.
The oldest volunteer is 86 years old and the youngest is nine years old, two of the volunteers were personally rescued on the night.
SARA have been saving lives in and around the severn for 50 years, they are a volunteer lifeboat and inland search rescue charity, with 7 lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn.
Each year the charity are called out over 100 times and they have six flood response teams to help assist with flooding emergencies throughout the country.
The fire service will be bringing a fire truck, the police will make an appearance, and SARA will be bringing their rescue boat.
There will be plenty of activities for the children such as a singer, bombshell betty, award winning violinist, Fiona Frank, pop up sea shanty, a ukulele band and local businesses will have a stand in the priory rooms.
Rosyln Aubrey said: “The primary reasons are to thank the services, SARA River Rescue, the fire service and the police, for all they did and still do to help people in life threatening scenarios.”
“To bring the community together to celebrate through music, song, food and find out more about local businesses and projects.”
