Monmouth 1st XI recorded an emphatic win over close rivals Belbroughton to keep their promotion hopes alive.
With the hosts deciding to bowl, Monmouth's openers Dan Head (59) and Andy McGuire (30) laid the foundations for a big score as the Belbroughton bowlers toiled in the heat.
Dave Teague (103 no) then smashed his first century of the season before youngster Josh Grey crashed 57 off 34 balls, including 6 sixes, as Monmouth closed on a competitive 295 for 3. William Pardoe (1-45 from 17 overs) was the only bowler to finish with respectable figures.
In reply, the Belbroughton batsmen struggled with the excellent bowling of McGuire (1-28) and Jonathan Roberts (2-37). Max Harris then stole the show with a fantastic spell of 6 for 18 for 10 overs as he ripped the heart out the Belbroughton middle order. Aled Jones chipped in with one wicket whilst Paul Swingwood took a good catch in the gully to cap off a brilliant all round display.
Meanwhile, Monmouth 2nd XI's poor season went from bad to worse with a heavy loss to Bromyard at the Sports Ground.
Asked to bat by the visitors, Monmouth's batsmen couldn't deal with the bowling of seamer Green (5-19 from 14) as they were skittled for 65 all out inside 29 overs. Adam Roberts (18) and Tom Baker (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures whilst there were wickets for Corbett (2), Reece (2) and Yarnold.
With bleak hopes of victory, Richard Shaw (1-10) and Lindon Jacques (2-22) bowled well to salvage some pride in an otherwise disappointing day. Youngster Alex Roden gained his first senior wicket but Bromyard reached the target with 26 overs to spare; Brian Pursell top scoring with 31.
Monmouth Sunday Friendly XI recorded a comfortable win over Forest of Dean side Lydney. Andy McGuire top scored with 98 in a total of 237-9 before Rick Parkes (3-27) and Jordan Charles (3-28) excelled with the ball. Debutant Alim Hansraj (1-28 from 8 overs) also produced a credible spell of spin bowler as the hosts closed on 204 for 9.
