A MONMOUTH charity will be represented on national radio next week by TV and radio’s Bill Turnbull.

Bill, who is a patron for Monmouth-based charity Bees for Development, will present a number of appeals on BBC Radio 4 this week, which, it is hoped, will raise vital funds and create awareness for the charity.

Keen beekeeper Bill stepped back from presenting BBC Breakfast earlier this year, and now presents his own weekend radio show on Classic FM.

Bill has kept bees for more than 20 years, and is the self-styled ‘bad beekeeper’, recording his beekeeping exploits in The Bad Beekeeper’s Club.

The appeal will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday 11th December at 7.55am and at 9.26pm. It will be broadcast again on the afternoon of Thursday 15th December at 3.27pm, and will be available to listen again at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

“We’re delighted that Bill is presenting our BBC Radio 4 Appeal, and hoping that our message will reach many listeners throughout the UK and beyond,” said Dr Nicola Bradbear, founder of Bees for Development.

“We have two key aims for the appeal: to raise vital funds for our work with bees and beekeepers in some of the poorest countries, and to create awareness of beekeeping and its valuable role in supporting rural livelihoods, as well as in maintaining biodiversity. It is vital that we all do more to protect bees and their habitat.”
