MONMOUTH-BASED business Victvs Ltd has stated the importance of identifying and stopping radicalisation in its early stages.

Victvs Ltds provide online courses and face-to-face sessions centred around awareness of the prevent duty, encouraging the early identification and treatment of extremism.

The prevent duty is found in Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, and states that frontline professionals and organisations including schools, universities and prisons have a duty of care to prevent people being drawn into terrorism.

Victvs Ltd managing director Ben Clayson said: “The terrible attacks in Paris last week highlight the importance of spotting people who are being drawn towards violent extremism, before they choose to act. If a person is identified as being at risk of becoming involved in terrorism then there are various support measures that can be put in place to help them choose a different path.

“It is now a legal requirement for many professionals to have a better understanding of these issues, and to know how to respond if they do have concerns.  Our training packages are about reminding people that individuals from all ethnic or religious groups can develop extreme views that can lead to violence, and we do not focus on any specific groups.”

Local MP David Davies recently visited the Monmouth office to look through some of the training delivered by Victvs Ltd.

Mr Davies said: “I was very impressed with the training package that Victvs Ltd. are offering.  It fits in with one of the planks of the government’s anti-terrorism strategy which is to spot problems early and highlight them to the relevant authorities who will then look to provide early interventions and support. We face an enormous challenge over the coming years and it is good to know that a local company has the expertise to play a big role in preventing future outrages.”
