Sir,

Might I suggest that due to the reported lack of space in Monmouth Cemetery, in future only genuine Monmothians be allowed to be buried in this hallowed ground?.

For many years it seems that just about anybody has been allowed to rest there without any regard given to their time in Monmouth, resulting in the sorry state of affairs where many incomers are buried there whilst genuine Monmothians have to be laid to rest elsewhere.

(I would say that proof of four to five generations of inhabitance in Monmouth would suffice to be labelled a true Monmothian, although perhaps Monmothians themselves might disagree with this and require a longer proof of domicile).

Luckily, I am merely an incomer and as such this problem does not affect me personally, but I hope that my views may help to provide a solution to what is obviously a very serious and ongoing problem.
