Three women who helped crack the Enigma code were cheered at a lecture on the role of Bletchley Park's 'codebreakers' in the Second World War.
There was standing room only at Bridges in Monmouth last Tuesday (16th August) for a lecture given by Dr Mark Baldwin which focussed on the Battle of the Atlantic and even included a demonstration of a rare surviving Enigma machine.
Among the audience were three ladies who worked at Bletchley Park during the war – Jean Pitt-Lewis and Pat Newton, of Monmouth, and visitor Betty Munday. They are three of the 12,000 or so employed there during the course of the war.
