TWO Monmothians are set to perform at the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday (1st December) complete with a star studded line up.

The Gala Concert will mark the 70th birthday of Tenovus, a cancer charity based in Wales.

The Gala Concert will be an evening of music and entertainment, and a celebration of the history and achievements of the charity.

The event will be hosted by actor and comedian Rob Brydon, who will be joined on stage by fellow patron, tenor and face of GoCompare, Wynne Evans, harpist Catrin Finch and Britain's Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam, with more surprise guests to be announced.

Eight of the charity's Sing with Us choirs, made up of people affected by cancer; be it as a patient, survivor, carer or those bereaved, will also be performing on the night alongside Wales's best loved artists.

Monmothian Jan Currie, who will be performing with the choir, said: "I am very excited to be performing on the 1st December. The songs we'll be singing are very poignant, they remind you to live in the now and appreciate the time you have here.

"We practise in a church in Abergavenny every Tuesday evening and it's such fun. I also enjoy practising around the house and with my husband in the car. Singing is very positive and provides lots of laughs. My husband enjoys singing as much as I do.

"Our conductor, Ruth Morris, is wonderful and produces such a lovely sound, if you stop singing for a moment and listen, you realise just how special it is.

"Singing is energising in itself, I believe it has such a positive affect on the body."

Gay Rogers, another choir member from Monmouth, said: "I joined the choir nearly three months ago having been told about it by Sheryl Westoby. She and I sing with Monmouth Music Theatre and are involved with their shows.

"I was bereaved last year and I welcomed another singing commitment which has helped to fill the gap. If anyone is thinking about joining I urge them to give it a try as it is so strengthening.

"We are singing a song called Sing for Life, so poignant for a cancer charity but also for anyone who might be experiencing effects from grief or any other major life changing sadness.

"We're also singing Something Inside So Strong and Lean On Me.

"At this moment I feel excited but no doubt on the day I'll be nervous. Singing at a function like this is nerve racking but the experience rewards such a buzz. I can't wait."

Rob Brydon said: "It's my pleasure to be able to be a part of such a special night at the Wales Millennium Centre, celebrating 70 years of Tenovus.

"I'm looking forward to a big birthday celebration and seeing the brilliant Sing with Us choirs perform.

"There will be music and lots of entertainment, all raising money to continue to support cancer patients and their families right across Wales, it would be great for everyone to join us and celebrate."

Classical singer Wynne Evans said: "Tenovus is close to my heart and I was very proud to be asked to become a patron this year. I'm delighted to be able to give my support to this very special birthday celebration; it's going to be a cracking night.

"Everyone loves a birthday party, and this is going to be the best birthday party of 2013, I just hope there's a big enough cake for 70 candles."
