Abergavenny Tenovus Sing with Us choir, featuring two Monmothians, performed last Sunday (1st December) for the charity's 70th birthday.

Members of the Tenovus Sing with Us choir, including Jan Currie and Gay Rogers from Monmouth, took centre stage alongside Rob Brydon at the Wales Millennium Centre.

The concert, hosted by Tenovus patron Rob Brydon, was a chance to celebrate 70 years of the charity's history and achievements in style, as well as looking to the next 70 years of support for cancer patients and their families in communities across Wales.

The choir is part of the Sing with Us project run by Tenovus for people affected by cancer. Members of the Abergavenny choir performed a medley of 'Something Inside So Strong' and 'It's My Life', as well as performing a specially commissioned song called 'Sing For Life' alongside over 450 other Sing with Us choir members on stage for the grand finale.

Claudia McVie, chief executive of Tenovus, said: "Our Gala Concert was the finale to our 70th birthday celebrations and what a way to end this very special year.

"We are so grateful for the support from our patrons Rob Brydon MBE, Wynne Evans and the talented Welsh artists who joined our Sing with Us choirs on stage. They were all superb and contributed to what was a spectacular night.

"This year has been one of celebration as well as a time for us to reflect on how far we have come in the last 70 years and all that we have achieved.

"Everyone who supports us in any way makes our work possible. They help us to fund our cancer researchers, keep our Mobile Cancer Support Units on the road and make sure our Freephone Cancer Support Line stays open seven days a week, even on Christmas Day, so this really was a night of celebration, thanks and hope."

Alongside Wynne Evans and Rob Brydon, there were performances from world renowned harpist Catrin Finch and Britain's Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam, West End performer AJ Callaghan, rising star Michael Riseley and Tenovus supporters, Howells Senior Girls School choir.

Artists took to social media accounts at the end of the night to give their thanks to supporters and to the members of the Sing with Us choirs, Wynne Evans tweeted: "Had a great night and proud to be a patron for Tenovus. The Sing with Us choirs sounded amazing!"

Britain's Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam posted: "Just performed at the Wales Millennium Centre for the wonderful Tenovus! We loved every minute of it, such a great cause!"

Rob Brydon, who gave a very special performance dressed as Elvis, also gave his thanks: "What a wonderful time at Tenovus' 70th Birthday Gala Concert at the Wales Millennium Centre, thanks to all who came."
