Money for what?

SIR,

Referring to my letter of August 6, in which I referred to the position of Area Manager for the County Council.

It seems the post has now become surplus as the Area Manager has nothing to do, as the biggest part of our services have gone and the recession is now hitting all of us very hard.

I have received numerous complaints from members of my group, pointing out that they are being forced to pay much more in electricity and gas, plus council tax, foods, clothes, etc. They say that, even with both parents working, they are struggling to manage.

Their wages are certainly a lot less than those paid to its Area Managers by the County Council.

I think it is now time for the County Council to look at the need for the Area Managers in the whole county. I recall writing to the Welsh Assembly about the Area Managers and got a reply saying it was up to the County to decide whether they were getting value for money.

Which brings me on to the issue of Council Tax. In Scotland they are about to do away with it and replace it by putting three pence in the pound on Income Tax, with the rich paying more.

At the moment the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer!

I hope readers will agree with me that we do not need 45 county councillors, costing close on one million pounds a year.

Also, we do not need a Town Council and its budget of £138,000 a year. Surely there should be one county councillor for the town, one town councillor for each ward.

The elected representatives should start taking note of those who put them there.
