UP to 15 chefs from the Catering Platoon of 1st Battalion The Rifles (1 RIFLES) are due to participate in the Monmouthshire Food Festival.

The chefs within the 550 strong infantry battalion provide a vital role in delivering catering support wherever and whenever it's needed.

When deployed on exercise or overseas, it is the military chefs on whom the battalion relies. Chefs from 1 RIFLES have deployed on operations to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as on exercise to Kenya.

During the festival you will be able to see live shows from the army throughout the day, including plenty of suggestions for busy working parents to conjure up nutritionally balanced meals that won't break the bank.

The chefs will work from an operation field kitchen as they would when deployed on exercise or operations, using military rations supplemented with local produce. They will also be able to answer all your catering questions and perhaps dispel a few myths.

The food festival, at Caldicot Castle on the 30th and 31st May, also features a producer's market, children's quarter and Incredible Edible sections.
