SIR,
RE Your front page article 'Councillor hits out at anti-social behaviour' in the edition dated 6th April 2011.
I write to comment on the above misleading article that appeared in your newspaper last week.
I can confirm that Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) has not received any complaints from Councillor Fletcher relating to the incident referred to.
We are certainly unaware of any evidence that MHA tenants are involved in this matter.
Officers have been trying to contact Cllr Fletcher to obtain any relevant information he may have.
Indeed, while on site, officers have looked at Cllr Fletcher's front door and could see no discernable damage to it.
In addition, the photograph showing graffiti on a block of flats is clearly not Carbonne Close, indeed it is not accommodation managed by MHA.
It is very disappointing that Carbonne Close has been highlighted in such a negative way.
A separate article in the same edition of your newspaper commented on the considerable work that MHA has undertaken at the residents' request to improve their homes and the environment in which they live.
We will continue to work closely with the residents at Carbonne Close and believe that this is a community going from strength to strength.
I would appreciate you correcting the obvious errors in this article and look forward to more positive reporting on Carbonne Close in the future.
David Morris
(Director of housing and communities, MHA)
The article in last week's Beacon, which referred to anti-social behaviour "in and around Carbonne Close and Buchanan Close", focused on the experiences of a respected town councillor and was not intended to villify the residents of Carbonne Close or Monmouthshire Housing Association.
Evidence of anti-social behaviour, including damage to Cllr Fletcher's door and graffiti on nearby properties, was clear to see.
It is the Beacon's duty to report both positive and negative news stories in a balanced way and we are happy to point out the work MHA has done with its residents in the area.
