MATTHEW Maynard, who has just renewed his contract to play for Glamorgan for another three years, visited Monmouth School to give a cricket Masterclass to the up and coming cricketers of the future.

The boys were able to pick up tips on batting from Matthew whose cricketing career included being named the Wisden Young Cricketer of the Year in 1988 and who not only captained Glamorgan from 1996-2000 but also played four test matches and 10 one day internationals for England.

The boys were also given coaching on seam bowling from James Boiling, a History master at the School, and an ex-professional cricketer for Surrey and Durham County Cricket Clubs and who played for the England A team on their tour of Australia in 1993.

Andy Jones, Master in charge of cricket at the School, said: "We were grateful to Matthew for giving his time and expertise to coach what we hope might be some of the players of the future. Monmouth School has a long tradition of producing first class cricketers and in fact the present Glamorgan captain, Steve James, is an old boy of the School.

"We are keen to continue to strengthen the links between professional cricket and cricket played at school level."
