SOMERFIELD IN MONMOUTH was targeted by masked thieves in the small hours of Tuesday 30th March.

At around 3.50am, two masked men broke into the store via a door that opens onto the car park at the rear of the store.

It is believed that they used a crowbar to smash through the glass after removing the rubber seal, and forcing the glass out of its frame.

One masked thief headed straight for the cigarette counter, after knocking over an Easter egg display, where he continued to slice open the reinforced metal shutter with a very large angle grinder.

The other entered behind, carrying two large green bags ready for filling, and leaped over the kiosk tills. After some obvious trouble with the shutter, the second accomplice left the store and returned with their crowbar, which was then used again to try and tear it open.
