SIR,

On a lovely sunny Saturday with Monmouth full of visitors, the one place which should have been thronged with people was totally empty.

Our wonderful square with the lovely Shire Hall was deserted.

No wonder. The market was in a car park at the outskirts of the town and all the Shire Hall gates were locked.

What a clever way of promoting tourism and attracting visitors to shop in Monmouth.

With virtually every shopkeeper and the vast majority of Monmouth citizens calling for a return of the market, it must be that Monmouthshire County Council has some secret information and plans which they cannot share with us.

But that can't be right because they have already stated that a plan has still got to be developed.

Come on Monmouth. If you love this town lets force these people to see sense.

Write to the newspapers, badger the county councillors and sign the petition to get the market restored to its rightful place.
