SIR,

What a fiasco the proposed meeting with officials in the Shire Hall to discuss the market turned out to be.

In the One Stop Shop last week I was given a survey to complete prior to going to the meeting last Monday (9th May).

At the top of the survey it clearly stated that one was invited to the Shire Hall to 'give evidence', in other words to put forward my points of view, and it clearly stated between 9.30am and 12pm, and 12.30pm and 3pm.

I arrived at the Shire Hall at 11am to be told that it was necessary to have an appointment and there was only one vacancy left, which was at 2.30pm.

I waited around hoping I could be slotted in during the morning, but at 12pm was told there was no way I would be seen.

With an interview time of ten minutes per person, I estimated that no more than 30 people would have been able to give their views.

This doesn't seem a very good representation when at least 3,000 people signed the petition.

Several people turned up after me and went away angry not knowing they had to have an appointment.

There was no mention of this beforehand. The notice gave the impression you should just turn up.

Surely it is time the town had a public meeting to decide on what action to take, or do we have to resort to an election to be heard?
