A 49-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with threats made to a woman on 6th February.

The man, from Bulwark, was arrested after a 42-year-old jogger was threatened with an axe in woodland near Rogiet.

Gwent Police are looking for more information regarding the incident, which occurred 6th February at approximately 5pm.

The woman was out running, and while on High Moor Hill reported seeing a man standing in her path holding an axe.

She ran in the other direction and called the police. She was unharmed.

Armed officers, police dogs and the police helicopter conducted an area search at the time but no one fitting the description given was found.

Since then officers have been carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and patrols have been stepped up to reassure the local community.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area between 4-5pm on Thursday 6th February. This is a popular area for joggers and dog walkers.
