LIBRARIES across Monmouthshire will be encouraging parents and children to get involved in National Bookstart Week, which begins on Monday (8th June).

Set up and run by the charity Book Trust, National Bookstart Week aims to get children into reading at a young age, to help with their development.

Reading every day is the message behind the campaign, with the charity encouraging parents and guardians to get into the habit of sharing stories, books and rhymes every day – even for just 10 minutes.

Caldicot Librarian Fiona Ashley said: "Bookstart Week is from the 8th to 14th June and the theme is jungle adventures – so we are using it as an excuse to make as much noise as possible!"

Baby rhyme time, for babies and toddlers, will take place in Caldicot Library on Wednesday 10th June from 2pm to 2.30pm, with the library hoping it will be the noisiest rhyme time ever.

Story time will be held on Friday 12th June for under-5s, from 10.30am to 11.30am. There will be stories, colouring and copies of Rumble in the Jungle available to take home.

Both Monmouth and Chepstow libraries will be holding three reading events through the week.

All events are free to attend.
