THE Beacon can exclusively reveal that the £4m bid for Lottery cash to breathe new life into the Shire Hall at Monmouth has been successful. Various bodies, including the County Council, Town Council and Shire Hall Stewards have drawn up ambitious plans for the town's most historic, Grade I listed building. It is hoped the 18th century building will become a focus for community uses, with enhanced facilities available for all to use. An important part of the project is the installation of a lift, which allows all groups and individuals unrestricted access to all of the building. The application for cash funding went to the Heritage Lottery Fund earlier this year. Now, we can reveal, the application has been given the green light and we will give full details next week.
