The launch of a book series set in Monmouth and the Wye Valley will take place on Saturday, April 2.

The launch will be at Drybridge House, beginning at 1:30 pm and finishing at 4 pm.

Local author Margaret Iggulden wrote the historical fiction series. It contains five middle-grade books.

She explained, "The first story came to me when walking around Trellech."

The first book in the series is The Bronze Mirror. The target audience for the books is eight to twelve-year-olds.

Margaret describes it as "a gripping, intriguing time-travelling adventure."

It follows time travelling twins on a quest to save Planet Earth during the fourteenth century.

Children’s author Janine Amos says she was hooked.

"The sights sounds and smells of the fourteenth century complete with knights, a banquet, and an urgent puzzle to be solved."

For many years Margaret wrote educational books for Pearson, OUP and Macmillan.

But Margaret wants to encourage children to read for enjoyment. So, she combined her interest in history and archaeology and created the series.

Margaret said, "Having a passion for not only history but also the environment I decided to write a children’s historical series."

The next book in this series, ‘The Amethyst Wand’, will be published next year.

Margaret explained, "The book is set in Caerleon at the time of the Roman invasion."

On Saturday, ‘The Bronze Mirror’ will be on sale for £7.99. You also get a free quartz crystal with each book and a signature from Margaret.

After the launch, the book will be available in retail outlets throughout the Wye Valley.

You can also buy it on Amazon from April 12 in eBook format and paperback.

Sam Densham’s youth drama group will perform readings.

Other creative workshops such as painting, drawing and face painting will also be at the event.

Medieval tiles discovered by Stephen Clarke and his archaeology team will be displayed at the event.

The Illustrator of the book, Angela Davis, will also be displaying her clay tiles at the launch.

These clay tiles won’t be for sale but cards of the images will be on sale on the day (cash only.)

Margaret is thrilled to launch the book on Saturday.

"Now I can let ‘The Bronze Mirror’ go out into the world so others can read, enjoy it and become as hooked on history as I am!" she says.
